Stupid Dope : Toyota + Park MGM Equals a DOPE Time at SEMA 2018!

Article by Richard Williams and republished from Stupid Dope.

Last week, the 2018 SEMA Show took Vegas by whirlwind, proving once more that automotive enthusiasts make the world go round. The city’s already lively spirit was emboldened by a verifiable cornucopia of visitors who flocked to it’s center and if you were smart, you booked your stay with one of MGM’s amazing properties. As we arrived, we checked in at the new Park MGM only to be showered with in awe of the property’s lush atmosphere. By seamlessly blending luxury with seemingly conservative embellishments, Park MGM’s whopping 2,700 rooms and suites encapsulate a brilliantly contemporary aesthetic, and their spa is top notch, as they offer the full array of services you would expect at a world-class establishment. A few times the munchies hit pretty hard, so it was rather dope that the property currently boasts multiple restaurants. In particular, we really dug the immaculately-prepared scallops and truffle pizza from Bavette’s Steakhouse and Libertine Social, respectively. The environments to which these establishments have raised are uniquely their own, with little overlap, so be ready for spot-on palette pleasers that don’t know when to quit.

Stupid Dope : Getting Dusty with the 2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro on the Trail Trek Tour!

Article by Richard Williams and republished from Stupid Dope.

Whilst touring the immensely large SEMA Show this year, it was hard not to get hyped around all of the amazing innovative automobiles and accessories that lined the aisles of the Las Vegas Convention Center. When it came down to the wire, Toyota shone bright as one of the main contenders for product slated to the everyday consumer with it’s Kevin Costner Adventure Truck, Pizza Hut Pie Pro Tundra, and its long-awaited 2019 TRD Pro lineup. Coming in an exclusive color called “Voodoo Blue”, the TundraTacoma & 4Runner were coincidentally the exact vehicles that we here at stupidDOPE were honored to test on the handpicked excursion called the Trail Trek Tour.

In addition to SEMA, an exhilarating evening at the Baja 1000 Qualifying, as well as being wined and dined by the ultra-swanky MGM Resorts, the handpicked Trail Trekkers were also able to take on the rugged desert terrain of Nevada in a successful attempt to test the capabilities of the three TRD Pro Series vehicles. For a full day, we were instructed to rail each automobile along the rocky trails of Wheeler Pass and we’ve got to say, each whip tested phenomenally. The Tundra’s sheer size made the course feel minute in comparison. The Tacoma’s ability to handle tight spaces was exemplary, but the all around versatile comfort and cabin quietness of the 4Runnerhas us sold on the premise of acquiring an off-road-capable vehicle in the near future. For 35 years, the 4Runner has developed directly from a consumer standpoint, offering user-friendly technologies that don’t break the bank.

Gunaxin : BFGoodrich Announces Outstanding Trails Winners at 2018 SEMA Show

Article by Philip Van der Vossen and republished from Gunaxin.

Last week, we were excited to be present when BFGoodrich Tires announced the winners of the 2018 Outstanding Trails Program at the 2018 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. It’s a great program that supports responsible wheeling by off-road clubs.

Each year, off-roading clubs from across North America nominate trails to receive grants for education and preservation. The four winners were chosen by a panel of off-road journalists, enthusiasts and technical experts for their uniqueness, terrain type and enthusiast following. Each winning organization will be awarded a $5,000 grant for its nominated trail, with $4,000 of the grant coming from BFGoodrich and $1,000 coming from Jeep Jamboree USA. The grants may be used for maintenance, repair, preservation efforts, signage and education. Now in its 13th year, Outstanding Trails has awarded $180,000 to 48 off-road trails nominated by more than 40 enthusiast clubs.

Gunaxin : Park MGM – Vegas Strip’s Newest Hotel

Article by Philip Van der Vossen and republished from Gunaxin.

You can’t throw a pair of dice in Las Vegas without hitting an MGM Resorts property. Park MGM is the latest to join their extensive portfolio and is the newest hotel on the Las Vegas strip. The building might look familiar to you as the former Monte Carlo, but it has been completely remodeled inside and out, and will be complete (with additional dining and entertainment offerings) by New Years eve.

The biggest attraction at the Park MGM is definitely the Park Theater, which is the new Vegas home of Lady Gaga & Britney Spears, and also hosted a 3-day Halloween engagement from Widespread Panic while we were in town. However Park MGM is also located right across the street from the T-Mobile Arena, home of the Vegas Golden Knights, UFC & Boxing events, and plenty of concert dates itself. We weren’t in town for a concert though, rather The SEMA Show and the latest stop on the Trail Trek Tour.

Oversteer by Autotrader : I Tested 7 New Crossovers on an Off-Road Course

Article by William Byrd and republished from AutoTrader.com/Oversteer

Modern crossovers are notoriously derided as “mall crawlers” with no real off-road ability. However, most are available with all-wheel drive and sport a higher ground clearance when compared to their sedan and wagon cousins. So are they really that inept off-road? Recently, I was one of the first journalists asked to join the Trail Trek Tour, which is an off-road challenge that tested seven all- and 4-wheel drive crossovers on a grueling off-road course. So which will be the best: the Toyota RAV4, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, Volkswagen Tiguan, Honda CR-V, Jeep Cherokee or Hyundai Kona? Let’s find out!
